How to Pack a Parcel for International Shipping

Key takeaways

  • Use a sturdy double-wall box and cushion contents well.
  • Remove empty space to cut volumetric weight and prevent movement.
  • Include an invoice copy inside and label clearly.

Quick answer

Pack international parcels in a sturdy double-wall box, cushion contents with bubble wrap or foam, seal with strong tape, remove empty space, and label clearly. Good packing prevents damage in transit and reduces volumetric weight — saving you money and avoiding insurance claims.

Choose the right box

Use a new, rigid double-wall corrugated box sized close to your contents. Oversized boxes increase volumetric weight and let items shift; weak or reused boxes crush under stacking in transit. Match the box to the item — snug but not straining the seams.

Cushion and immobilise

Wrap items individually and fill every gap so nothing moves. Movement inside the box is the leading cause of damage. Aim for at least 5 cm of cushioning (bubble wrap, foam, or crushed paper) around fragile contents and between items so they never touch each other or the walls.

Packing fragile items

Bubble-wrap each fragile item, use foam corners or dividers for glass and ceramics, and double-box very delicate goods (a cushioned inner box inside a larger one). Mark the box 'Fragile'. For glassware, cosmetics and electronics, our export-grade packing service is strongly recommended.

Packing liquids and cosmetics

Seal bottle caps with tape, place liquids in zip-lock bags to contain leaks, and stand them upright cushioned on all sides. Never pack pressurised or alcohol-based aerosols for air freight — they're restricted. Check with us first if unsure.

Seal and label properly

Use strong packing tape along all seams in an H-pattern (both openings and the centre seam). Place a copy of the invoice inside, and ensure the recipient's full Korean address and phone number are printed clearly and correctly on the outside, with your return address too.

Reduce cost while packing

Because you pay on the higher of actual or volumetric weight, compact packing directly lowers cost. Remove bulky retail packaging, use the smallest safe box, and vacuum-pack soft goods. Or simply let our team repack for you to optimise protection and cost together.
